The wanderers kept making human beings change their model of the real. Width here is modern heliocentric distance from the lamp. That is not how the old sky was seen. It is how the model now places them.

1. Mercury

   The fastest naked-eye wanderer later exposed a limit in Newtonian prediction and became a test of relativity.

   One light, two appearances. Phases later pressure cosmological models. Radar then shows another world.

   Retrograde motion, then maps, then an engineering destination whose future place can be calculated.

   One wandering light becomes a system with moons. Later, resonance, timing, and navigation.

   The slowest naked-eye wanderer becomes a telescopic puzzle, then a ring system and a dynamical world.
